FPL differentials →Haaland (Man City) is our FPL captain pick for Gameweek 7. Home to Ipswich Town, who concede the 3rd-most chances in the league. He's predicted to score 6.0 points before the captain's double. The next best options are Groß, Saka, Cunha.
We predict every player's points for the next gameweek from how often he starts and how long he plays, his expected goals and assists, and how many chances this week's opponent gives away, home or away. The captain pick is the midfielder or forward with the most predicted points. A double gameweek counts both matches, and players without a match are left out.
We tested the method on every gameweek of the 2025/26 season, using only what was known before each deadline. Our captain pick averaged 7.3 points a week before doubling, against 5.6 for the most-owned attacker. Past results don't guarantee future ones, but it beats simply following the crowd.
Usually not. In the same 2025/26 test, the best captain owned by under 15% of managers averaged 4.2 points a week, well below our main pick. A differential captain can win rank in a single week, but over a season the higher-scoring choice comes out ahead.
Through the week up to the deadline, so injury flags and team news are included. It's worth checking again after the pre-match press conferences.
